0:00 Caller: Hey, how are you?
0:00 You: This call will be recorded.
0:05 You: Hey, Jeremy.
0:08 You: I'm well in yourself.
0:10 Caller: Doing well also. Thanks for making time to talk with me quickly. I just, you know, wasn't sure how my schedule is going to pan out tomorrow.
0:20 Caller: I appreciate it and don't need to take a ton of your time or anything.
0:20 You: Thank you.
0:25 Caller: I'll just kind of tell you a little bit about, you know, sort of what an interview with Paul could look like.
0:33 Caller: So, first off, Paul is a super, super nice guy.
0:37 Caller: Like, he's...
0:40 Caller: I don't, believe it or not, I don't know him personally,
0:40 You: We're going to be.
0:42 You: I don't know.
0:43 Caller: but I know a lot of people who do,
0:44 You: We're going to be.
0:44 Caller: not just from AIVC, but people from the past from BCG.
0:46 You: I don't know.
0:47 Caller: Like, anyone I know that's ever worked with him
0:48 You: I don't know.
0:49 Caller: or just really, really likes him.
0:50 You: I'm sorry.
0:51 You: I'm going to
0:52 You: I'm
0:52 Caller: So you don't have to anticipate, like,
0:53 You: here.
0:54 You: Thank you.
0:56 You: Thank you.
0:56 Caller: some grueling interview where...
1:00 Caller: You got to, like, I don't know, do all sorts of technical minutia or anything.
1:00 You: Thank you.
1:08 Caller: He's probably really going to talk to you mainly because you're likely going to interface with him a lot at AIVC.
1:17 Caller: He's the head of engineering.
1:19 Caller: It kind of like...
1:20 Caller: straddles both between the client delivery side of the business and also things that they
1:20 You: Thank you.
1:26 Caller: build internally. So I would say he'll probably want to hear about some projects that you've
1:35 Caller: worked on in the past and I would really go into like some technical depth.
1:40 Caller: him on that just conversationally um you know i think that what he wants to know is that you are
1:40 You: I'm
1:51 Caller: technically strong you enjoy working with AI building agents you know everything that you like to
1:56 Caller: do and that you are like the startup type of person
2:00 Caller: You know, he probably just like wants to hear about, you know, kind of like engineering responsibilities you've had and things that are like beyond surface level.
2:00 You: I don't know.
2:16 Caller: I could tell you, I have people.
2:20 Caller: who work there currently, but Paul really liked.
2:20 You: We're going to be.
2:22 You: I'm
2:23 Caller: And I also have people that didn't get a job that Paul liked,
2:26 Caller: but basically just said, look,
2:28 Caller: they didn't not give me enough depth
2:29 Caller: on what they're really doing at their job
2:31 Caller: or projects that they've ran or anything.
2:33 Caller: And I know you have that depth jet,
2:35 Caller: not just because you verbalize it,
2:37 Caller: but because I've seen your work.
2:39 Caller: It's really,
2:40 Caller: good. So I would get into the tooling that you work with and, you know, just explain some
2:40 You: I'm
2:47 Caller: things you've done. Even in the conversation you had with Mel, she walked away from there going,
2:53 Caller: look, you really gave me a great picture of the stuff that you're doing at your current company.
3:00 Caller: how everything operates and everything like that you got to just do the same thing with paul
3:00 You: I'm
3:04 Caller: except go a little bit more on the weeds technically so he like you know understands the
3:11 Caller: you're not just like using like quad and chat gpt to do all your work you're like
3:16 Caller: really thinking things through and and kind of like
3:20 Caller: understand what agents are off-the-shelf tools are best needed for certain problems,
3:20 You: Thank you.
3:22 You: I don't know.
3:24 You: I don't know.
3:25 Caller: but then also, like, where you have to do, like, manual lifting and, like, kind of come in
3:26 You: Thank you.
3:28 You: Thank you.
3:31 Caller: and solve things.
3:34 Caller: There's a chance that you might say, look, where do you see yourself?
3:37 Caller: Are you, you think you're more client-favor?
3:40 Caller: or more you know in our studio building things and it's fine to be to be really honest with them um
3:40 You: We're going to be.
3:47 Caller: you know you could tell them if if you feel this way like you really feel yourself being like
3:53 Caller: in the studio on the platform and in building things um you know um so i i
4:00 Caller: be open about how you feel there. I just think that what he really needs to know is that you could
4:00 You: We're going to be.
4:02 You: We're going to be.
4:04 You: We're going to be.
4:06 You: We're going to be.
4:07 Caller: actually build things and you are capable yourself of doing that because I think what they
4:12 Caller: really want is someone who could partner with people with like a little bit more of like the
4:17 Caller: business foundational skill who go
4:20 Caller: hey this is the problem and this is why we want to build this product but we need someone who could
4:20 You: Okay. Anything I should avoid with Paul.
4:24 Caller: actually build the product for us and you'd be that person if that all makes sense so no i mean i
4:36 Caller: would say like look i'm just such an open
4:40 Caller: that I wouldn't like sugarcoat anything or be like, I try to give you as much guidance
4:40 You: Thank you.
4:45 Caller: as I can for past experience.
4:47 Caller: So one person I could think of recently who didn't get to the next step from Paul, who
4:53 Caller: was an engineer, they basically said, like, hey, you know, tell me about something that you
4:58 Caller: worked on.
5:00 Caller: and, like, something that you built.
5:00 You: Thank you.
5:02 Caller: And basically, like, they were really superficial in what they talked about
5:07 Caller: and, like, kind of had, like, dated references on technology.
5:11 Caller: And then we're almost, like, more like, yeah, I was really thinking about the security here.
5:15 Caller: Like, and then he was like, well, what about, like, building the application or, like.
5:20 Caller: you know all of that so it was almost like they just couldn't answer how they took the steps to
5:20 You: Thank you.
5:27 Caller: like build something that went into production um and and that's what i'm trying to say is like
5:33 Caller: you really just got to be able to like you know kind of go from like this is kind of
5:40 Caller: where we started at zero to one to like you know launch on on this um and walk him through um
5:40 You: We're going to be.
5:47 Caller: i could tell you when you spoke to some of some of the other people like i think offhand you
5:51 Caller: spoke to soren you did great on on this stuff like you've had a really really good feedback
5:56 Caller: that i've seen jed where people are
6:00 Caller: I've taken notice like, hey, this is someone I want to work with. You really know what you're
6:00 You: No.
6:05 Caller: talking about and people would want to really collaborate with you in this company. So I think
6:10 Caller: you'll do fine with Paul. Again, he's a super, super nice guy. So he's really just going to
6:17 Caller: like have an open end of conversation where it's like, hey, Jed, you know.
6:20 Caller: know, probably I've heard some really nice stuff about you.
6:20 You: Thank you.
6:22 Caller: Could you, you know, tell me about, like, some projects you worked on that you were excited
6:26 Caller: by, you know, that type of stuff, is most likely how it's going to go.
6:35 Caller: So, you know, that's really what I think.
6:40 Caller: is going to be at the heart of this is just tell me about the work you've done like what's been
6:40 You: I'm
6:45 Caller: a really cool project and you know kind of how'd you build it what were the steps you took to
6:50 Caller: kind of bring that all to fruition and um you know again he might say look if you came to a ivyvc
6:58 Caller: do you see yourself
7:00 Caller: being from clients or do you want to build things or you know and there's not a right or wrong answer
7:00 You: Thank you.
7:05 Caller: there i think from our discussion you probably articulated a little bit more of like look i'd like to be
7:12 Caller: you know more just like a real engineer than a forward deployed engineer um but
7:20 Caller: It's okay to kind of say that one way or another.
7:20 You: I'm
7:23 Caller: He might also just generally ask questions, being in a business context, like one that you work in.
7:31 Caller: Okay.
7:31 Caller: Have you ever had any interactions with people or, like, stakeholders that maybe had these, like, grandos ideas about, like,
7:40 Caller: you know, this is a product we could build or something we could put into production.
7:40 You: We're going to be.
7:43 Caller: You've had to be like, hey, like, that's not as simple as you think.
7:47 Caller: Because sometimes people from a business might do a little vibe coding or something like that,
7:54 Caller: and they're just like, you know, it takes someone like yourself to kind of go, like,
7:58 Caller: this is actually how you build it.
8:00 Caller: And you've got to kind of put things together both cleanly and securely and, you know, adhere to, like, actual engineering practices.
8:00 You: Thank you.
8:08 Caller: That could be a question he might ask you is, like, hey, have you ever dealt with, like, any stakeholders that, like, really think they know what they're doing technically, but they don't.
8:15 Caller: And, like, how have you navigated that?
8:17 Caller: That's something I could see him asking.
8:20 Caller: I really just think that if you kind of get into the work you've done and just be prepared to give like some concrete examples of projects you've delivered and just like how you've gone about building these things, you'll do great.
8:20 You: Understood. Okay.
8:40 Caller: um you could even if you if you ever feel as though look maybe i'm giving too much detail
8:40 You: We're going to be able to
8:43 You: Thank you.
8:46 Caller: this is going to be a conversation so you could always be like paul if i'm giving you too many
8:51 Caller: details just let me know feel free to interject or ask any question um you know if it starts
8:57 Caller: going on that track where you're like really good
9:00 Caller: going into the technical minutia of our project.
9:00 You: We're going to be able to be.
9:02 You: Thank you.
9:03 Caller: But just expected to be a go with flow sort of conversation,
9:04 You: Thank you.
9:06 You: Thank you.
9:07 Caller: I don't think you're gonna have any issue.
9:09 Caller: You're a great conversation, Jed.
9:11 Caller: And this is really just gonna be a back and forth dialogue.
9:15 Caller: Like at this point, everyone has seemed to really like you.
9:20 Caller: I think Paul's not going into things blindly of that.
9:20 You: Thank you.
9:23 Caller: And this is just like, oh, hey, I want to actually talk to Jed and hear his depth, but also, you know, this is someone I'm going to be working with.
9:33 Caller: And I want to just, like, say hi and know who they are and be able to look out for them when they come into this company.
9:40 Caller: if i could think of anything else along the way i will let you know um but um yeah i think that i think that
9:40 You: Okay. Got it.
9:54 Caller: really um he's just going to probably like talk about some of the things they do
10:00 Caller: and just see how does this relate to work you've done.
10:00 You: We're going to be.
10:02 You: I'm
10:02 Caller: So the best way to prepare for that is really just to kind of think about like a few
10:07 Caller: recent projects and the agents you've built what they've been used for and just like how
10:11 Caller: you've built them.
10:13 Caller: And, you know, sometimes it's not even a bad idea like before an interview to just like
10:19 Caller: bullet points.
10:20 Caller: these things out not so you're reading them off paper or anything but like so you're like taking a step
10:20 You: You know,
10:24 Caller: back and going like okay this is actually how i did it sometimes when i talk to engineers and
10:30 Caller: you know you're working the stuff day to day it like almost becomes just like second nature
10:35 Caller: and autopilot as well where if you like took maybe like even 10
10:40 Caller: minutes to bullet point like two projects out you go right now now I remember like how we
10:40 You: okay then uh
10:45 Caller: started here and how we we we completed it but that would be the most um preparation I'd do for
10:53 Caller: this interview otherwise it's just like really be yourself and I think you're going to do great
11:00 Caller: all right cool um so yeah let me know if you need anything i'm here and you know you
11:00 You: I have what I need, so I'll go ahead and start summarizing some projects for Paul.
11:05 You: And I think I chat with him on Monday.
11:17 Caller: you could call me anytime and if i don't hear from you
11:20 Caller: you good luck and just let me know how things go all right appreciate the call okay bye
11:20 You: Sounds good.
11:23 You: All right.
11:24 You: Thanks, Jeremy.
11:27 You: Take care.
